Pages of Beans

Some pages from my book Falling Beans which I am redesigning. Here are some ideas I am playing around with using scans from the old version I made a few years ago. I've played around with textures and colours to give me some ideas for when I redo it completely! Lots of work ahead. Lots of experimenting to do!

Beans Front Page

Here is the front page of a book I made a while ago which I have revamped and given a new look.

Another Street

In actual fact, it is the same street as in the last post (in case you cannot tell.) I just changed the colours and things to see what it would look like.

A Street

Here is a street of some sort. I'm trying to try out some new things which I can use in the book I'm trying to put together. Here is today's experiment.

Introducing a New Setting to my Two Latest Characters

Here are the new things from my evening class. I decided to put Marcus and Maria (my new characters in a setting... their house! The picture at the top showed what happened when my teacher showed me some things I could do with my work on Photoshop (I don't know Photoshop well). Next post will show how I developed this into some nice new pictures for you all the see. I will have a play around at home and see what I come up with.

More

Here is more stuff from my evening class, a load of variations of the same thing. I thought I'd upload a few of the things I ended up with while I was playing around with different textures and colours on the same drawing. I end up with about a million versions of the same picture whenever I do this so this. This post might seem repetitive, but is only really a tiny amount of what I end up with. Changing colours and textures is more addictive than Facebook! The picture at the top is what I came up with at the end. If I'd had more time at the end of the class I would have about 20 versions of that picture too.

Someone Has a New Coat!

Drawings From my Evening Class

Here are some bits from my evening class. I am rewriting a story I wrote during foundation to turn into a book. The set of sketches at the bottom show the earliest of the lot. Some of them were done a couple of weeks ago. The set of sketches above those are ones I drew today. I was trying to make the characters appealing and look more like children. The drawing at the top is just a happy one of a woman holding a beautiful coat!

An important week begins!

Work experience at Aardman begins tomorrow! Today I found the place and posed next to/behind/underneath the sign pictured here.

This One

I don't why this picture is so long. I think it could be good for a title or something... might use it on my website or something. I like the composition though. It just feels like there should be some writing or something happening in the middle.

Some Quick Things

I'm doing a children's book illustration course at the moment and in preparation for starting on our own things, today we experimented with new materials. I used paint and colouring pencils. (These are not actually new materials to me, I admit.) Here are some scwibbles. Billiam and Beraldine (from my graduate film Win the Game - a classic) will be featuring in a new "how to" book on how to defeat a yeti monster. They are shown in the picture below. The top picture... I don't know what that is.

Colourful Little Man

I'm not sure what I was trying to do here. This is another example of an old picture I've recycled. There isn't much skill in altering the colours in Photoshop and then repeating the image a bazillion times, but it is fun and therapeutic. I think I might make it even bigger with more colours so I can use it as a pattern within another picture.

Some Old Story Beats

Here are some old story beats from Win the Game (my graduate film.) I am going to revisit this style and make it better so I can illustrate some books in this way.

Okay fine, here they are

The green bits took longer than you think they did. Bunnies... in space!

Bunnies in Progress

This is not finished, but I'm far too impatient to wait until I've completed it before uploading. Also, if I upload the unfinished version, it will make me work harder to actually finish it. At the moment, the painting on the rabbits is rather shoddy, but I think you can enjoy the idea behind the picture anyway. Bunnies, everyone!

Alan... again. Looking very similar to the last post.

Well, I ended up not changing him very much, but here he is finished! (For now) There's plenty more I can do to this picture to make it more exciting and interesting, but I have an itch to draw new things with this new spacey background thing I've just discovered. Don't wanna spend ALL my time on Alan. What has he done to deserve it? NOTHING. He doesn't even have a job.
